On April 15, Adam Long posted a video on Reddit in which he and his friends dressed as green aliens jump out of a van and beat a passerby to death with bats. The video went viral and the number of imitators grew quickly. In response to the increasing attacks on peaceful players by green aliens, purple aliens (and later gangs of cops, men in black and military) began appearing to try to stop them. Under the established rules, the use of firearms was forbidden.
In a short time, this confrontation swept tens of millions of players. TikTok video views on the hashtag #greenvspurple totaled 1.6 billion views in a week.
The final battle was announced in advance and took place at the Los Santos airport on May 15.
